Can Imagination Change the World? The Power of Triangle Meditation
Do you ever make the mistake of watching the news when you vowed not to? Then, you have feelings of frustration and a bit of hopelessness. You wish you could do something that would make a huge difference in the world! Have you ever felt this way?
You think about voting and how that didn’t seem to be helpful. You remind yourself to be nice to your neighbor, donate to good causes, be helpful whenever you can (and all that is good) but wouldn’t it be amazing if something you could do would make a dramatic change for the better? If only imagining, thinking, and wishing could make a difference!
A few years ago I became aware of a daily practice that involves imagining, thinking, and wishing and maybe it can help make a change for the better! I decided to try and have been pretty consistent with the practice. It's called Triangle Meditation and here is what I do.
First, I sit quietly for a few moments and link mentally with two other people. That just means thinking about them and imagining some kind of connection.
Then, I invoke the energies of light and goodwill. That just means wishing with a strong intention doesn’t it?
Next, I imagine these energies throughout the three focal points of myself and my two buddies. These three points create a triangle.
Finally, I imagine this great energy spilling out to other triangles and all over the planet. As I imagine this amazing energy doing wonderful things to everyone on the planet I say the Great Invocation. The Great Invocation helps the downpouring of light and love into the consciousness of humanity. That has to be a good thing doesn’t it?
This only takes a few minutes a day and it isn’t necessary for the three members of the triangle to synchronise the time it is done. It is very easy. It enables me to feel like I am doing something helpful for our world.
Feeling like you are doing something to make a difference in the world has a very good impact on your attitude! I’ve noticed this practice has helped my outlook. Sometimes when I’m feeling disturbed about the state of the world, I’ll say the invocation to myself and feel better. I think I’m doing something to help. Changing how people think and feel is powerful! If you can do that for yourself, that alone is worth the effort don’t you think?
If you think this sounds interesting maybe you should try it. But what is this “Great Invocation you ask? I provide the invocation below with one note. When I first read this Invocation I had some issues with the language and hesitation about the whole idea (but that perhaps is the discussion for another blog). When I recite this I change the line that reads, “May Christ return to Earth.” to “May the ones who unite us be known.”
The Great Invocation
From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.
From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ* return to Earth.
From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men –
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.
From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.
Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.
Are there potential benefits of this practice, both for individuals and society? Research has shown that meditation can reduce stress, improve mental health, and even potentially decrease crime rates in communities. I invite you to try the practice for yourself and share their thoughts and experiences in the comments.
